2nd Star to the Right... Then straight on 'til morning...

It has become a personal habit of mine to write some extensive year-end entry at around this time. Often, this is a positive pep talk entry of sorts for all of us in preparation for the year to come. But I think, it's important to really shift a couple of gears back to really appreciate 2009 for what it truly is: a year of suck. But hold on, there's a point to this and it does end on a reasonably positive note. But for those of you who would opt to skip on this, there's the LJ cut.

There, much better. )

Notes from Sagada
[info]psychoshoujo
-Our Victory Liner driver is crazy. I was barely able to sleep on the bus. The bus from Baguio to Sagada was actually more comfortable.

-On the bus stop uphill, about 5 hours away from Sagada: I jumped at the chance to have sinigang na bangus for breakfast with steaming hot, purple mountain rice. I wolfed down the bangus, and was about to slurp down the soup when I noticed a moth in the broth. Upon presenting it to the lady at the counter, she peers at it and says, "Ay, parang butterfly!" (Oh! It looks like a butterfly!). No refund, no exchange. Never mind, breakfast was good while it lasted.

-None to weak cellphone signal. So please guys, don't try to call or text me, that's what facebook is for. How I'm to coordinate with the Mutuc Boys (who should be heading up, if not already in town as I type), I have noooo idea. Adventure!

-And again, fresh veggies, strawberries, and yoghurt. Our hotel (Rock Inn, pun intended) has an orange orchard, which means we have fresh orange juice EVERY DAY. Nomnomnomnomming!

-The municipality of Sagada has changed a LOT in 10 years. The roads are much better than before. Not as rustic, and there's your token r&b and rap music in some of the inns, but the community is still friendly. Tourism hasn't destroyed Sagada yet. There is hope.

-We plan to head up to Banaue for a day trip after Christmas.

Question guys: is the local wine worth bringing back? I'm talking their strawberry wine and their attempt at Arabica bean wine. Is it yummy, or does it just make people go blind?

I had too many things to do this weekend. But stuff happened, and I ended up... not doing anything at all. LOL I suck. I really feel bad about it, but I think I just want to be a hermit for a while longer. Plus aside from the family drama that's been erupting every so often, the traffic is just really really bad. It takes me 1 1/2 hours to get to Katipunan, and then another 1 1/2 hours to get home. WTF. It's driving me crazy. Not to mention wreaking havoc on my right knee >.> I'm getting so sick of the city. >.>

...Maybe next year I'll be more sociable. Hehe. Pretty much the only thing I leave the house for is Simbang Gabi <3 but yeah I'm missing out on even that tonight.

Those two are my only decent photos from the recent block Christmas party. HAHA. Strangely enough, I don't even remember having these photos taken. LOL. Binge drinking is bad. But part of me thinks I do it to avoid awkward moments. :P Maybe next year I'll stop. :P

Before 3D sprites and espers...

There was Mega Man.

By the time I encountered the Blue Bomber, the 2nd installment in the long-running game series (reaching its 10th installment in its classic 8-bit platform next year) was already out. Now, it was by no means the first video game I've encountered. And certainly it was not the first game that placed you in the shoes of a hero saving the world.

But it was the first game that made that premise feel epic for me, unlike the light quest of a plumber to save the princess.

And one of the ways they pulled it off?

Music.

The music behind Mega Man II made it feel like some kick-ass-manly-oh-my-god-my-testicles-are-growing-larger epic quest to save the world. While games like Final Fantasy would later refine my affinity for great video game music, Mega Man II certainly started it all for me.

Slavery, slavery, slavery...
[info]maxim_omega
As part of my current project with the DepEd, I found myself making floor plans of non-existent offices for exercises involving how to orally (ghehehehehe... I said "ORAL") disseminate (ghehehehehe... I said "seminate") fire escape instructions.

While placing cubicles here and there, all of a sudden I found my head saying, "hehehehe... I will teach them the value of WORKING TO DEATH. Corporate sweatshop hehehehe... Slavery slavery slavery... despair despair despair... anguish anguish anguish... forlornness forlornness forlornness..."

Then I looked at the clock.

*Smack cheeks*

It's 3:30 am. Kaya naman pala.

Time to put this to rest lest I pollute the minds of public high school students.

Aaah, I miss Ren and Doble - they both had me listen to this song. It starts after the first minute spiel.

theme song for 2009
[info]psychoshoujo
I'll march my band out,
I'll beat my drum,
Guess we didn't make it,
At least I didn't fake it.
Don't tell me not to live,
Just sit and putter,
Life's candy; the sun's
A ball of butter.
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade.

I'm gonna live and live now,
Get what I want I know how,
All that the law will allow.
Hey, gorgeous, here we go again.
Well, here it goes, kid,
No lookin' back,
Stiff upper nose, kid,
Let's give 'em hell, Brice,
We'll cry a little later,
Well, Brice, that's life in the the-a-ter!

Get ready for me, world,
'Cause I'm a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade.

Yep. I survived you, 2009, to the tune of Barang.

Here I am!

It's a wonderful feeling indeed. Especially because it's Christmas, and I am ridiculously Christmasy person so I am extra happy.
